Nice is the fifth largest city in France and definitely one of the most glamorous. It doesn't take long to get a feel for the layout of Nice, shadowed by mountains that curve down to the Mediterreanean and the Bay of Angels. With four millennia of history, Nice is a fantastic showcase for all the very best of the French Côte d'Azur. From Regency to Belle Epoque, the town is full of wonderful hotels, museums, arts and architecture.
HIstoricaly, Nice has alternated between being French and Italian and has many examples of both cultures. It's very much a city of colour, from its ochre and brick red walls to its green and blue shutters, and its bright orange sunshades. Baskets of herbs and spices in the Cours Saleya add fragrance for those wandering around the antiques market there.
