City delay leaves Roosevelt Island ferry plan high & dry

Ferry advocates say Roosevelt Island could have a working service within the year, but the city doesn't plan to construct a dock until 2010 - which could leave commuters hung out to dry.
In 2009, the Tram will be closed indefinitely for repairs and the already overcrowded F train has been prone to unexpected shutdowns, giving island residents few alternatives to get to and from the island.
"Without the Tram available, we're going to need another option to get off the island," said John Renner, a senior associate with Becker Becker, the firm that developed the Octagon building on the island's north end.
"If everything goes well, we can get ferry service" in 2009, said Renner, noting his firm has secured the necessary permits.
